Listed below are the Workshops John is currently offering. They are organized in sections: Mat based workshops, Reformer and other Pilates Equipment Workshops, and Lecture Based Workshops. The workshops are all eligible for the CECs that are listed under each title.

Athletic Mat

Pilates Mat Workshop | Continuing Education Credits: 2 NPCP

Using a combination of Pilates Mat and other bodyweight exercises, this program will challenge even your strongest clients. We add combinations and unique variations to combine the best of both worlds (fitness and Pilates), and bring you a creative and challenging workout that’s full of the joy of movement.

Intermediate

Objectives

  1. Learn creative variations on Pilates exercises that will help take you and your clients to the next level.

  2. Explore creative regressions to help make advanced exercises accessible to new and fit clients, as well as, help clients to get to the next level in a safe and efficient model based off of the fitness theory of progressive overload.

  3. Learn to combine body weight exercises for the fitness world with Pilates Mat exercises for tons of variety and challenge.

Goals

  1. To add additional variety to Pilates Mat exercises.

  2. To explore the original Pilates principle of fluidity through creative programming.

  3. To have fun while at the same time learn skills and stretch the participant’s limits through a safe and effective program.

Bosu® and Pilates Mat

Pilates Mat Workshop | Continuing Education Credits: 2 NPCP

This fun and challenging intermediate-level Mat Workshop uses Pilates exercises with the Bosu Balance Trainer. It’s full of great programming ideas. The Bosu provides a great surface for Pilates exercises and opens up a whole new world of training.  Get great ideas on how to add functional training to your traditional Pilates mat programs.

Intermediate

Objectives

  1. Discover challenging and effective variations of Pilates mat exercises performed on the Bosu Balance Trainer.

  2. Explore exercises traditionally performed on other pieces of equipment, as well as, from the world of fitness, and apply them to working with the Bosu.

  3. Add even more variety with the combination of the Bosu Trainer and the Magic Circle.

  4. Experience a full body workout using the Bosu.

Goals

  1. Understand the importance of balanced programming through the use of the Bosu Trainer.

  2. Discover multiple programming options using the Bosu.

  3. Challenge and motivate all levels of clients through Pilates training on the Bosu.

Athletic Reformer

Reformer Workshop | Continuing Education Credits: 2 NPCP

Get ready for a fun, fitness-based Reformer workshop. It’s a balanced, full-body workout with both traditional and creative new Reformer exercises. We combine the worlds of fitness and Pilates, using one of the most iconic pieces of Pilates equipment, the Reformer. Working from one end to the other on the equipment will also work you from head to toe. Get some great new programming ideas and have some fun with this dynamic and energetic workshop.

Intermediate

Objectives

  1. Explore fitness based moves on the Reformer with innovative cues, regressions, progressions and programming tips.

  2. Understand how to motivate new clients with a fitness background, who are beginning a Pilates program. Get great tips on how to keep these clients coming back for more and discovering the many benefits of a regular Pilates practice.

  3. Learn the benefits of a combined fitness and Pilates program using the iconic Reformer for a more traditional based fitness program including a warm-up, main workout, and cool down and addressing increasing strength of all major muscle groups.

Goals

  1. Bring the worlds of fitness and Pilates together using the language of both and showing the differences and similarities through a unique program of exercises.

  2. Provide a fresh look at programming with tips for introducing, cueing, and modifying exercises to meet the needs of the client or class.

  3. Showcase an example program complete with intermediate level exercises while reviewing muscular emphasize, proper form and execution, and programming tips for each exercise.

Unilateral Reformer

Reformer Workshop | Continuing Education Credits: 2 NPCP

Unilateral work highlights body imbalances, while simultaneously helping to correct them. We’ll explore unilateral exercises in this workshop that will add both variety and challenge to any workout and help to highlight and correct imbalances. This program is designed as a stand-alone, full-body workout, but can also be used for endless programming ideas. The exercises range from beginner to advanced.

Intermediate

Objectives

  1. Discuss the challenges and advantages to training unilaterally.

  2. Explore exercises traditionally performed bilaterally and the difference in muscular engagement and body awareness when performing them unilaterally.

  3. Experience a full body workout designed using only exercises performed unilaterally.

Goals

  1. Understand the importance of balanced programming through the use of unilateral exercises.

  2. Discover multiple programming options using unilateral exercises.

  3. Challenge and motivate all levels of clients through unilateral training on the versatile Reformer.

Hacks for the Hard Exercises

Reformer Workshop | Continuing Education Credits: 2 NPCP

Explore fun and unique regressions, progression, and teaching hacks for some of the most challenging intermediate and advanced Reformer exercises.  Through decades of teaching and practice, John has found fun and creative ways to teach some of the most difficult Reformer exercises.  Learn some of the best secrets to creating that "aha" moment with your clients and classes.

Objectives

  1. Learn tips and skills to teach the exercises that are hard to do and teach.

  2. Learn unique progressions to help clients successfully and safely perform these challenging exercises.

  3. Discuss programming options for taking the exercises presented and putting them into workouts that will help the client achieve their fitness and Pilates goals.

Goals

  1. For the most challenging intermediate levels to teach, you’ll learn proper form and execution, the anatomy and biomechanics, regressions and progressions, and programming tips.

  2. Participants will better understand how to build up to challenging exercises for a safe and effective practice. 

  3. Discuss programming and designing workouts for clients and classes, specifically how these exercises fit into a workout and program.

Reformer with Pilates Circle Magic

Reformer + Circle Workshop | Continuing Education Credits: 2 NPCP

Let’s create a little Magic on the Reformer using the Pilates Circle. The Circle adds so many important benefits to Pilates Movements. It can be used for resistance, assistance, body awareness, and more.  In this workshop we will cover the WHAT, HOW, and WHY for each exercise that we explore.  What is the exercise? How is it performed? Why would we include it in a workout?  Get great new exercise and programming ideas and create a little  magic on the Reformer.

Intermediate-Advanced

Objectives

  1. Discuss the benefits of adding the Pilates Circle to Reformer Exercises.

  2. Learn creative ways to improve strength, mobility and body awareness with the Circle.

  3. Learn proper form and execution of the exercises included in the workshop.

  4. Learn why and when to incorporate the Circle in your workouts .

  5. Create a little magic on the Reformer using the Circle.

Goals:

  • Discuss the benefits of adding the Pilates Circle to Reformer Exercises.

  • Learn creative ways to improve strength, mobility and body awareness with the Circle.

  • Learn proper form and execution of the exercises included in the workshop.

  • Learn why and when to incorporate the Circle in your workouts .

Spring Wall for Fitness

spring wall Workshop | Continuing Education Credits: 2 NPCP

Add tons of variety to your Spring Wall (Tower or Cadillac) workouts. You'll learn how to adapt exercises, performed on other pieces of Pilates equipment and in the fitness world, for the Spring Wall.  This workshop will provide you with a full-body, balanced, program that's great for any intermediate or advanced level client.  The workshop also includes variations and unique exercises that can be added to any routine.

Intermediate-Advanced

Objectives

  1. Experience a full intermediate / advanced fitness- based program on the Spring Wall (can be adapted for the Tower and Cadillac).

  2. Learn the proper form, biomechanics, regressions and progressions to new and traditional exercises.

  3. Understand and learn how to program for clients that are skilled athletes and fit individuals seeking a Pilates practice to enhance their performance.

Goals

  1. Present a full program filled with great new exercises for those clients that need and are ready for challenge in strength and body awareness.

  2. Discuss the exercises in terms of who they are most valuable for, who they might be contraindicated for, and how to program the exercises into specific workouts.

  3. Show creative programming with both traditional and non-traditional exercises on the Reformer.

Pilates Chair for Fitness

Chair Workshop | Continuing Education Credits: 2 NPCP

This workshop covers creative programming designed for Pilates participants who are athletic and looking to improve strength and balance.  It includes a full-body workout with challenging fitness-based moves, hitting all of the major muscle groups, while adhering to the historic Pilates principles as well as the contemporary principles of alignment. Although the exercises range from beginner to advanced, the programming is mostly intermediate level.

Intermediate - Advanced

Objectives

  1. Learn new and creative exercises on the Pilates Chair.

  2. Explore a full body Chair program that is also fluid, fun and challenging.

  3. Learn exercises using the Chair that are traditionally performed on other Pilates apparatus and in the fitness world.

Goals

  1. Increase the programming options for those that practice on the chair regularly.

  2. Understand the biomechanics, proper form and execution and programming options for each exercise.

  3. Cover regressions and progressions, as well as the “why” for all of the exercises.

Good to Great to Awesome

Lecture-Based Workshop | Continuing Education Credits: 2 NPCP

This workshop is designed to help you become the best Instructor you can be. Learn how to attract and keep clients, improve your teaching skills, and take your professional development to the next level. Based on John’s Video eBook, this workshop covers everything from dealing with competition to having the “it” factor.

Lecture

Objectives

  1. To provide the participant with key areas to focus on to become the best instructor possible.

  2. To help the participants understand the the concept of mastery and all it entails.

  3. To provide a humorous and memorable lecture that will help any instructor, at any level, improve.

Goals

  1. To provide my insights about what makes a great instructor, based on 30 years of teaching clients, training instructors, and watching the best of the best teach Pilates and fitness.

  2. To present tips and strategies on how to master your craft and the tools to take action. 

  3. Participants will take action steps immediately and learn to become masters of Pilates.
